Swords of Darkness: Last Call

Today is the last day to get in your submissions for Swords of Darkness! If you have a story you’ve been hanging onto, now is your chance to send it in!

Email me your story at lucycordeliamortimer@gmail.com.

If you’re a new author who is worried about having someone read your story for the first time, remember these three things:

  1. Someone has written a worse story than you. I promise. Chances are that your story is actually pretty decent. I will never laugh or make fun of your story. Ever.
  2. Even if your story isn’t selected for publication, this doesn’t mean your story sucks. I’ve received an overwhelming number of responses for this anthology, which means I have some tough decisions to make.
  3. You can improve. We all can. I’ve been a professional writer since 2005 and my work has changed dramatically in the ten years I’ve been writing. I have room for improvement and so do you. If your story isn’t chosen this time, it’s not the end of your writing career. I promise.

Thank you to everyone who has submitted a story and for trusting me to read your manuscript. I’m honored that you want to be a part of Swords of Darkness and even if your story isn’t selected, I hope to collaborate with you on future anthologies.

All the best,

L.C.

Anthology Updates

There are just two weeks left to submit a story for Swords of Darkness and the submissions are rolling in! If you haven’t already submitted a story, you still have 14 days to get something in!

A few notes:

*I’m accepting submissions until November 30th. I’ll be reading the stories after submissions close and making final decisions on stories by December 15th. You will hear from me whether your story is chosen or not. If for some reason you don’t hear from me, or you didn’t receive a message when you sent your story, then I didn’t receive it.

*This is a fantasy anthology. While I love sci-fi as much as the next writer, that’s not what this book is about. If there is a lot of interest, I may work on compiling a sci-fi or horror anthology next time, but please keep the “fantasy” genre in mind while writing this time.

*I don’t care what else you do with your story. I’ll be buying 1-time digital publication rights. This means that I’ll put your story in Swords of Darkness, but that’s it. You are free to self-publish your story in other places or to submit to magazines and other anthologies. It’s your story. Do what you like with it.

I hope this has answered most of your questions. If anyone has anything else, please shoot me an email and I will get back to you as soon as I can!

Swords of Darkness Update

Thank you to everyone who has submitted a story for Swords of Darkness!

This anthology is still open to submissions until November 30th. I’ll read all of the stories after the close of submissions and make a final decision by December 15th. I do not accept stories on a rolling basis simply because I want to give everyone time to get something in. It’s always disappointing to work on a story for a compilation, only to find that submissions were closed early!

Swords of Darkness will be published in eBook format only and each selected author will receive a digital copy in addition to the $20 payment.

As always, if you have questions or concerns, please feel free to send me an email or leave a comment.

Anthology

Do you love to write fantasy stories?

Do you dream of princesses and dragons?

Do the dragons sometimes win?

Come write for me! I’m putting together my first anthology, called Swords of DarknessSelected stories will be fantasy tales featuring a sword, though what you do beyond that is up to you. Previously published authors and newbies are both welcome to submit.

What I’m looking for: Fantasy stories featuring a sword of some kind. Ideal length is 3,000-6,000 words, but stories up to 10,000 words will be considered. I’m more concerned that you tell a story to completion, rather than write to a specific word count. If you’re worried about length, just email me. I’ll get back to you as quickly as possible.

Previously published works are fine, but please let me know at the time of submission. I’ll be selecting 10 stories for publication.

Pay: I’ll be buying one-time digital publication rights. Pay is $20 per story + a digital copy when the book is completed. (You can do whatever you want with your story, including self-publish it or submit it to other publishers. You retain all of your rights.)

Submission deadline: November 30, 2015

Publication date: January 1st, 2016

Edited by: L.C. Mortimer, author of The Dead of Night. When I’m not busy penning zombie novels, I’m a full-time non-fiction writer and editor.

Where to Submit: Email submissions to lucycordeliamortimer@gmail.com. Please don’t stress or worry about formatting. I will be reformatting everything once I select the stories, so don’t waste your time worrying. As long as I can open the story in Word, I’m happy. You will hear back from me with a yay or nay by December 15th.

What to Send: Email me your story as an attachment. Please include a brief author bio. If you have social media links, a website, or books up on Amazon, please include those links.
